Episode 5 is a “day in the life” episode for Kazuto’s younger sister, Rika. As far as plot development goes, it introduces Marduk, later known as Maru. He is a space pirate who comes to capture Val but can’t help from getting stepped on by Rika and Kazuto. He recognizes Val’s “pet” Shiro as a legendary space pilot, but Shiro plays dumb. This is called “foreshadowing”, folks.
As a personal aside, I would end up obsessing over Nurse Witch Kamugi-chan probably a year or two after watching this. When I sought out other anime that Momoi-san had done voice work in, I was surprised to see that she is credited as the voice of Maru!
